It is my tradition each year to show you a parade of our family costumes from years past. Each year the parade gets a little longer. This year I get to add last year’s costumes as well as this year’s costumes because they have already been revealed.
2013
I knew it was only a matter of time before we would don capes and tights and take a turn as superheros. It took my brother-in-law’s surprise 30th birthday party this year to motivate us to put it all together.
Of course, we weren’t all superheros. There were a few super-villians in our midst. My mom made my costume for me years ago (Who cares if it doesn’t zip up anymore. That’s what the cape is for!) We borrowed super man, inherited batman, and put together the girls costumes from clothing we had on-hand plus some accessories. Robin’s costume was a complete DIY. If I survived this weekend’s birthday party, look for a post early next week with a few more DIY details and shortcuts. We were proud of that costume! It won the prize for the birthday boy’s favorite costume at the surprise party!
2012
We busted out the cans of colorful hairspray during our stint as the cast of Phineas and Ferb. This was our families favorite show at the time so everyone was excited to dress up! BSB does a great Dr. Doofenschmirtz voice and his costume was pretty basic to put together. (He just needed a pointier nose.) For more details about our Ferb-tastic Halloween, check out this post.

2009
We inherited a really nice Buzz Lightyear costume that my son loved and I knew we could put together Woody and Jesse costumes with out too much trouble (thanks mom for sewing the chaps and the vest). I had plans for pull strings on their backs, but ran out of time. I recycled the Bo Peep costume, borrowing a blond wig this time, and stuffed my pink shirt for my daughter to be Hamm along with the cute hat I found at the craft store.
2008
In 2008 we did Narnia. Can you tell what we all are? (Except my husband, who tried to claim he was C.S. Lewis… Yeah. I didn’t buy it either.) This grouping was inspired by my daughter telling me she has the face of the white witch. She made a creepy one and my son was excited to carry a sword and serve as the knight in shining armor to all the princesses at the church party. If you can’t tell, I am a lamppost. I put glow in the dark bracelets around my bun, so the lantern did give off some light.
2007
2007 was complicated by the arrival of baby #3. We ended up with two mini-groupings. My son was an astronaut and my daughter a sassy alien. I was still in the hospital when they went to the party at church (BIG thanks to my sister for getting them ready!)
2007 (pt. 2)
I took my baby to Gourmet Group about a week after she was born, and she wore the costume I made for her while I was awaiting her arrival. I went as a gardener and she was my prized peony. Her costume was pretty easy to make. I knitted the hat (easy on a round loom) out of green fuzzy yarn. We bought a onesie and tights and dyed them green, and I bought a giant silk peony, cut off the stem and stitched it to the cap. Being a gardener is easy if you have a pair of old overalls, gloves and a hat. She was the hit of the party!

My daughter wanted to be Cinderella. (Yeah, she always got her way at the beginning) I found this cute pumpkin costume for my son, and I was the fairy Godmother. (BSB was out of town, so off the hook, this year).

2003
I believe that this is the year that started our family costume tradition! For some reason, my daughter decided she had to be a lamb for Halloween that year. My mother obliged by making her a costume, and kept sewing until my ideas for a family grouping were realized. I am Little Bo Peep. Kira is the Little Lamb and BSB is The Big Bad Wolf.
